Kelly Andreasen goes for a layup against Pascack Hills. Andreasen is one of many seniors looking to lead Valley in 2021.

Girls basketball Head Coach Jeff Jasper has high praise for every single player on the team.

“Kelly is sensational, a great shooter,” Jasper said of senior Kelly Andreasen.

“Jules is special, she can score the ball quite well,” Jasper said of junior Jules Vassallo.

But as he goes down the list, one thing is apparent. Each and every player who will suit up in the green and white this year is, simply put, a great teammate.

In a basketball program that can only be described as a dynasty, winning is expected every single time the team steps on the court. The last losing season is so far in the rearview mirror that some of the current players weren’t even alive for it. How? Why? What is it about these girls from PV that makes them so successful?

The answers to these questions, Jasper hopes, are what will carry the team to success this year. The team will look to rely on a very strong veteran core, including both Vassallo and Andreasen, in addition to seniors Nicole Perrone, Lexi Hort, and Laura Jennings.

“All three of them [Perrone, Hort, and Jennings] are just great teammates,” Jasper said. “In this day and age, if you can find great teammates, you are going to have a great team. You need to have unselfish kids who are going to sacrifice.”

Jasper has drilled the idea of teamwork into his players since day one.

“Our strength is really going to be that we are an unselfish, ball sharing team,” Jasper said. “We are going to compete, we are going to dive for loose balls, we are going to work hard every single day at every single drill.”

To go along with this, Jasper will be bringing three sophomores even further into the fold this year. Tori Criscuolo, Hannah Zeman, and Lindsay Jennings, are all going to be helping the team right away, already having notched 20 points between them over the first two games.

“[The three of them] are special,” Jasper said. “They are gonna find their way into some super quality time this season.”

So why does each and every player, in addition to their spirited coach, put so much work into the sport day in and day out?

This answer according to Jasper, who is going into his 48th season at the helm, is simple.

“I love basketball,” Jasper said. “That is all the motivation I need.”
