Girls Soccer: Indians remain undefeated, advance to semifinals of B.C.T.
PV set to face Northern Highlands, New Jersey’s No. 1 team, on Sunday
The Pascack Valley girls soccer team had an incredible week. Actually, they have had an incredible season.
Last night, the Indians (13-0-1) remained undefeated, and avenged their 2-2 draw against Mahwah earlier in the season with their 2-0 win over the Thunderbirds in the quarterfinals of the Bergen County Tournament. With the win, Valley advanced to its first Bergen County semifinals since they won the tournament in 2007.
The Indians advanced on the back of two goals from senior Elizabeth Spadafino and an assist from Danielle Freeman. Spadafino, who has racked up 25 goals thus far this season, has found the back of the net at least once in all 14 of the Indians’ contests.
Pascack Valley, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will face No. 1 Northern Highlands in the semifinals at noon on Sunday in River Dell. Both the Indians and the Highlanders received byes in the first two rounds of the tournament, beginning their tournament play in the round of 16. The Indians downed Emerson 4-1, before shutting out Mahwah on Sunday. The Highlanders, not only the No. 1 team in the tournament, but the No. 1 team in the state according to NJ.com, beat River Dell 3-1, and shutout Ridgewood 1-0.
Earlier in the week, in non-tournament action, Valley had a pair of 3-0 wins, against Old Tappan and Academy of the Holy Angels, respectively. Spadafino scored all three goals against Old Tappan, and two goals against AHA. Senior Jenny LaRocca scored the other goal against the Holy Angels.
The Indians will have a final tuneup on Wednesday against Demarest before their big showdown with Northern Highlands. PV defeated Demarest 1-0 earlier in the season.
