District Superintendent Erik Gundersen said that all in-person school activities until Dec. 14 will be suspended or held remotely due to the increasing positive COVID-19 cases in the district. This was announced during the Pascack Valley Regional Board of Education meeting held Monday at 4 p.m. on Zoom.

Gundersen said that the increase in coronavirus cases has not been caused by events held by the district.

“Although the COVID-19 positive cases include individuals in our district, there’s no evidence to support the transmission of COVID-19 through school-based activities,” Gundersen said.

Gundersen noted that the district is following protocols set by the Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission and that the district is ready to shift to a modified fully remote morning schedule in the event that the region must close for a longer period of time.

“This is a major shift in protocols for schools and will make it difficult to sufficiently stay safe in the building, but the measures are being taken seriously to minimize the spread of COVID-19 throughout the community,” Gundersen said.

The BOE accepted a $3000 donation from the Light for Life Foundation International for the district’s Wellness Center. It also approved the establishment of the William and Maura Ellis Family Scholarship in memory of William Ellis.

“These are difficult times for our students and staff alike,” Gundersen said. “I could not be more proud of the work and everyone involved.”
