The PV Mascot Selection Committee has narrowed down its list of mascot names from 53 to “10 to 15 names” after holding its third meeting Wednesday afternoon in PV’s auditorium and on Zoom, according to committee student representative Vasili Karalewich.

Pascack Valley’s Mascot Selection Committee will be holding its first meeting toward selecting a new mascot on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. on Zoom due to COVID-19 contact tracing investigations at PV. This meeting will be exclusively for Mascot Selection Committee members.

The committee includes students and 15 faculty members that have been personally invited via email by Assistant Principal John Puccio and Athletic Director Shawn Buchanan.

The purpose of the meetings is to start an open and objective conversation about the new mascot, according to the email. The recipients of the email include a representative from the PV Student Publication.

“Our goal is to have the meeting in person to help foster a full discussion about the selection process and initial ideas for a mascot,” Buchanan wrote in the email.

There is also a mascot committee at Pascack Hills that will be holding a meeting at the same time as PV’s committee. Both committees will have two student representatives who will report back to the Board of Education at its next meeting on Jan. 18. The BOE has informally set Feb. 22 as a tentative target date for a final mascot proposal.
