Pascack Valley will go fully remote through Oct. 28 after a second individual tested positive for COVID-19, according to an email sent to the entire district on Oct. 16 by district Superintendent Erik Gundersen. 

“Although the investigation has revealed that Covid-19 was not transmitted within any school-based operation,” Gundersen wrote in the email, “We now have two confirmed positive cases, over 70 students and 10 staff members are required to be in quarantine so far, and the investigation is still on-going.”

While “tied” to the first case confirmed on Oct. 14, the second case “was in close contact with a largely different group of people within our community,” per the email.

According to the email, PV’s nursing staff will contact all parents and guardians whose children must quarantine as a result of the new case. 

In addition to classes being all-remote, all in-person extracurricular activities through Oct. 28 are cancelled as well.

“Rescheduled events will be communicated through the respective coaches and advisors,” Gundersen wrote in the email.

As for the scheduling, all students in both cohorts will be required to “meet remotely with the teacher synchronously every day,” according to Gundersen’s email.

Gundersen concluded the email by saying, “Our hope is that in these next two weeks, the spread is contained, everyone is feeling better, and we can return to in-person learning in a safe and positive way.”
