The volleyball team scrimmages during a recent practice. PV will open their season today against Teaneck.

Head Coach: Kate Lewis (1st season)

Last year’s record: 8-13

Key returnees: Devin Martinez (Sr. MH), Megan Viganola (Jr .LIB), Nicole Arden (Sr. OPP), Laura Cubala (Jr. OH), Corinne Herrmans (Jr. SET), Sam Gibson (Sr. DS)

Key losses: Alyse Herburger, Julia Dobre, Olivia Leili, Shannon Geraghty

Key newcomers: Allison Sumerau (Jr.), Alison McGuire (Jr.), Bianca Belmonte (Jr.)

Strengths of the team: The team has a lot of chemistry and is great with communicating. Their passing and defense are strong, and overall, the team hits the ball very hard. The team’s offense has improved and they look to keep getting better as the year goes on. Hopefully the team’s strong chemistry will help them improve both on and off the court.

Areas that need improvement: The team loses energy in the middle of their sets. They are looking to improve their energy and stamina throughout the whole game. They are working on improving their offense by playing more aggressively and keeping their errors to a minimum.

Coach’s comment: “I could not be happier to be starting as varsity coach with this group of girls.  They are all excited to be on the court every day and do not let anything affect that attitude.  I think they would stay in the gym all day if I let them.  I think we have a lot of potential and that we can be competitive with any team as long as we can keep our errors to a minimum and keep working hard every single play.  I am really looking forward to the season and watching us grow.” -Kate Lewis
