Ruback, PV tennis enjoy solid season

It was a solid season for the PV girls tennis team, and a breakout one for its first singles player, Brianna Ruback.

The girls’ tennis team has had multiple accomplishments this year. Ruback qualified for the state tournament this year, which was a great accomplishment for the team, and for Ruback individually.

Ruback, who said her patience and her footwork are among her greatest assets as a player, lost only to the area’s elite players, including Sasha Shumyatsky of Tenafly, Grace Minassian of Demarest, and Brianna Omar of Ramapo. Just a junior, Ruback has been PV’s first singles competitor since she set foot at the school.

“Brianna showed her best tennis,” said senior teammate Anna Faytelson.

As a team, the Indians approached the .500 mark and came on strong at the end of the year.

“The team has done better this year than we have in the past years,” Faytelson said.

The team has squared off against worthy opponents all season, including teams such as Old Tappan, Tenafly, Demarest, and IHA, all four of which are ranked in the top ten of the Bergen Record’s Top 20 High School Girls Tennis Rankings.

“We are in a strong league,” Ruback said.

The team is a tight-knit bunch that made memories this year and had lots of fun together.

“Brianna and I never seem to do less than amuse,” Faytelson said.
