Smoke Signal attends NHSJC in Washington, D.C.

The Smoke Signal attended the Fall National High School Journalism Convention, sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the Nation Scholastic Press Association, in Washington, D.C. from Thursday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 24. At the convention, around 6,000 student journalists across the country participated in hands-on workshops, keynotes, and other learning sessions.

In write-offs with 2,125 other journalists, 864 students were chosen as winners of superior, excellence, and honorable mention. The Smoke Signal went four for four and took home Honorable Mention in Commentary Writing for editor in chief Rachel Cohen, Excellence in Feature Writing for editor in chief Katie Mullaney, Excellence in Sports Writing for sports editor Spencer Goldstein, and Excellence in News Writing for sports editor BJ Mcgrane.
