Valley Sports Week in Review 10/4 – 10/10

Tuesday 10/5:

  • Tennis @ Pascack Hills (State Tournament) | Valley 0 – Hills 5

    • After taking down Sparta in the first round, the team’s search for a State Championship came to a close against a district rival Monday afternoon. The girls came up short against Pascack Hills, losing by a score of 5-0, in their second loss this season against Hills.

  • Gymnastics Meet @ Indian Hills | Valley 92 – Indian Hills 95.65 – Mount Olive 98.1

    • The Pascack Regional Gymnastics team finished third in dramatic fashion in a meet Tuesday afternoon, getting narrowly beat out by both Indian Hills and Mount Olive on Tuesday night. Pascack still had a strong showing, finishing with 92 points, their second highest score of the year.

  • Boys Soccer @ Indian Hills | Valley 4 – Indian Hills 2

    • The boys responded to the disappointment of missing out on the county tournament with a convincing win away at Indian Hills. Two Niko Bonanos goals, and one each from Shane Feder and Max Van Gyzen, propelled the team to a dominant 4-2 win.

  • Girls Soccer vs Indian Hills | Valley 2 – Indian Hills 0

    • The girls, coming off a decisive county tournament win, kept the streak going with a 2-0 victory over Indian Hills at home on Tuesday night. Amanda Polyniak and Julia Conjour netted the goals for Valley in this out of league game. ​​

Wednesday 10/6:

  • Volleyball @ Indian Hills | Valley 2 – Indian Hills 0

    • The Volleyball team opened up what would prove to be a busy week away at Indian Hills on Wednesday afternoon, tearing apart the Braves in 2 straight sets. Sabrina Hirsh’s 9 kills, Kaleigh Higgins’ 15 assists, and Dara Viganola’s 11 aces propelled the team to a blowout victory.

  • Tennis @ NVOT | Valley 2 – Old Tappan 3

    • The girls went on the road against a rival again, this time travelling to Northern Valley Old Tappan and taking on the Golden Knights. In an extremely competitive bout, the Ban sisters, Alexis and Jordan, each went the distance in the first and second singles matches, with both of them managing to take down their opponents in three sets. However, PV would go on to lose the other three matches, going down in a 3-2 heartbreaker.

Thursday 10/7:

  • Boys Soccer @ Teaneck | Valley 7 – Teaneck 2

    • The boys kicked off the second half of their league season with a 7-2 win on the road against Teaneck. Michael Caminneci led the scoresheet with his second hat trick of the season, along with the first career goals for Adrian Pilet and Preston So, each having one. Max Van Gyzen and Ethan Schwartz also scored as Valley moved to 5-2-2 on the season. 

  • Tennis vs Indian Hills | Valley 4 – Indian Hills 2

    • The tennis team was able to end its losing streak and get back into the win column Thursday afternoon with a 4-1 win over Indian Hills. After Alexis Ban defaulted with an ankle injury, the team swept the rest of the match, earning its first win of the week.

Friday 10/8:

  • Volleyball vs Tenafly | Valley 0 – Tenafly 2

    • The girls lost a hard fought battle with Tenafly in two sets on Friday afternoon, falling to 6-4 on the season. While, at times, it appeared as though they might have been able to claw their way back into the game, things never came together, and PV went down 25-16 and 25-17 in straight sets.

  • Tennis @ NVD | Valley 0 – Demarest 5

    • In their fourth match in four days, the tennis team fell to Demarest, 5-0. It was a tough match for PV, with the girls only being able to win 6 games throughout the entire match.

  • Football vs Wayne Hills | Valley 13 – Wayne Hills 7

    • The football team returned home to an electric crowd on Friday night for a nail-biting, overtime win over Wayne Hills. A trick play touchdown to Dylan Hutchinson put PV up in the second quarter, but Wayne Hills came back with a TD of their own right before the half. A defensive showdown would ensue in the second half, and a dropped snap on Wayne Hills’ potentially game winning field goal try sent the game into OT. A Nick Messina touchdown, followed by a defensive stop, gave Valley the hard fought win, moving the team to 4-2 on the season.

Saturday 10/9:

  • Volleyball vs Fort Lee (County Tournament) | Valley 2 – Fort Lee 0

    • The girls bounced back after Friday’s loss in the preliminary round of the county tournament, taking down Fort Lee, 2-0, and moving themselves up to 8-4 on the season. This put them into the first round of the tournament, where they played Bergen Tech on Sunday.

  • Girls Soccer vs Ramsey (County Tournament) | Valley 2 – Ramsey 4

    • After a first round win over Saddle River Day in the Bergen County Tournament, the girls took on Ramsey Saturday. Unfortunately, this game didn’t go as well, and PV was eliminated from the tournament after a 4-2 defeat.

  • Boys Soccer vs Palisades Park (Bergen Cup) | Valley 6 – Palisades Park 0

    • The boys started the Bergen Cup strong with a 6-0 win over Palisades Park. This time it was Niko Bonanos scoring the hat trick, scoring all three goals in the first half to go along with one from Preston So, Michael Caminneci, and Max Van Gyzen to put PV into the second round.

Sunday 10/10:

  • Volleyball vs Bergen Tech (County Tournament) 

    • The team kept their county bid alive, pushing themselves into the second round by grinding out a tough win over Bergen Tech on Sunday. After losing the first set, the team stayed strong, winning the second and then pulling away for a 10 point victory in the third set, giving them the 2-1 win. Sabrina Arcilla showed out with a team high 22 digs, as did Kaleigh Higgins who totaled 25 assists.
