Will Joe Burrow be the first quarterback to win the Heisman, National Championship, and Super Bowl?
Former Louisiana State University quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman Trophy in a landslide with 841 out of the 871 total votes back in 2020.
He didn’t just lead his college team to the college championship, but he led his NFL team to the Super Bowl in his first full year as the starting quarterback.
The Cincinnati Bengals are making their first Super Bowl appearance since 1989 and can possibly win their first Super Bowl while Burrow simultaneously being the first quarterback to win a Heisman Trophy, a national championship, and win a Super Bowl.
Burrow came on the rise out of nowhere at LSU in 2019. As he transferred from Ohio State to LSU and threw for over 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns, and six interceptions in his Heisman year while winning a national championship.
Burrow wasn’t alone in his effort to win the college national championship and the Super Bowl as his college and now NFL teammate Jamaar Chase has been right by his side throughout the process.
Chase was drafted 5th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bengals but caused second thoughts after the Bengals drafted him.
During the preseason, Chase struggled and had severe problems catching the ball and tracking it down.
This caused most people to rule him out when the season started, but he wasn’t for that. He finished as a top five wide receiver in receiving yards with 1,455 and top three in receiving touchdowns with 13.
During Monday’s Super Bowl media session he said “preseason drops didn’t worry me, I knew what I could do already.”
Burrow was the first pick to the Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft who had a record of 2-14 in the 2019-2020 season. After a disappointing freshman season finishing with four wins while tearing his ACL midway through the season, he bounced back better than ever throwing for 4,611 yards,34 touchdowns, and 14 INTs and has a chance to make history.
Although his interceptions may be high he has still had a great season and is now one win away from winning the Super Bowl.
During the regular season, the Bengals matched up with the Kansas City Chiefs and won, allowing them to push for a playoff spot. Chase ended that game with 11 receptions,266 yards, and three touchdowns. He broke the record for the most receiving yards in a game by a rookie.
They met again in the AFC Championship game as Chase put up 54 yards and a touchdown, and Joe Burrow threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
After the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes greeted Burrow and said “Way to play, man. Go win it all.”(in reference to the Super Bowl).
Burrow will attempt to defeat the Los Angeles Rams as he faces them and Matthew Stafford Sunday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. EST. Tune in to this once-in-a-lifetime experience and witness history.
