Westwood welcomed a cozy new brunch spot in mid-December 2025 called Almost Home General. From the moment we opened its doors, the cafe felt bright and polished.
Inside, they serve a plethora of pastries, brunch foods, and gourmet cafe drinks. The atmosphere is clean and modern, and they have plenty of seating options, such as comfy chairs to enjoy a conversation and coffee, bar stools to casually hang out, and open tables to do work or study on.
When we went for brunch on a Monday when there was no school, there wasn’t a long line, and the wait to receive our food wasn’t long. The menu was placed at a table before the register so that we could decide what to purchase as soon as we walked in, and there was no pressure when it came time to order.
We took our time selecting items off the menu, and had our order “to stay”, meaning we got our food delivered to us on glassware, a nice touch that added to the overall feel of the cafe. We got to choose where we sat, and the cafe was not too noisy, so we were able to hear each other’s voices clearly.
We ordered one drink and two dishes–one sweet, the other savory–to test out both the breakfast and lunch aspects of the menu.
The sweet dish is called the “Challah French Toast”. It comes doused with berry syrup and sprinkled with nutty house-made granola. The bread was soft and cinnamony, while the granola and syrup gave the toast a nice, sweet flavor. We would rate this an 8/10.
The savory dish is called “The Soprano,” and it’s a grilled chicken sandwich with mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and homemade pesto. The pesto was not too overpowering and went well with the grilled chicken. The fries did not come with the meal, meaning it costs extra to include them. We would rate this a 6.5/10.
The drink is called the “Snickerdoodle Latte,” which includes a double shot of espresso, cookie butter, brown sugar, and your choice of milk. The cookie butter added a unique touch to the drink. The latte was flavorful, and the “snickerdoodle” flavor definitely shone through. We would rate this a 9/10.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the wide selection of menu items at Almost Home General, and thought it would be a great spot to sit down for a long conversation or to grab a quick latte and pastry on the run.
