Madison Beer released her new album in January. “Locket” features 11 songs that blend pop and R&B. Below is a review of these new songs.
1. “Locket theme” – 8/10
“Locket Theme” is the perfect balance between happy and sad. The tempo is also interesting and steady. The song sounds similar to Ariana Grande’s music since it has a slow beat and expresses multiple emotions throughout. Additionally, their voices sound alike since they’re both high-pitched and smooth, which is nice, especially since so many people love Ariana Grande.
2. “Yes baby” – 6/10
“Yes Baby” is very different from what Beer usually releases. It focuses more on the beat and has a much faster tempo. It sounds similar to Charli XCX or Tate McRae since their songs are usually more futuristic-sounding with the use of editing and autotune. However, it’s understandable why it’s different from her usual releases since it was performed in last year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The song was enjoyable, but her other releases and original style of creating music are better.
3. “Angel wings” – 7.5/10
“Angel Wings” definitely focuses on the pop sound. It’s clear right away that it’s faster and more upbeat. It sounds similar to one of Addison Rae’s songs, or even a popular pop song from the 2010s.
4. “For the night” – 7.5/10
“For The Night” sounds similar to her other song “Reckless.” It’s nice that she has taken inspiration from it because it’s one of the most popular songs that she’s released. The message that this song conveys about her past relationships and struggles is very meaningful and seems to be very relatable, which makes this song more interesting.
5. “Bad enough” – 8/10
“Bad enough” really fits in the pop genre. It’s a slower, softer song, but the chorus picks up, making it enjoyable. This song had very clever lyrics, especially in her use of rhyme, and it seems likely to be popular.
6. “Healthy habit” – 6.5/10
“Healthy Habit” started very strongly since it had a fast tempo and upbeat rhythm. There was no waiting until the chorus for it to speed up, and its speed keeps the listener engaged when listening. The tempo in this song is enjoyable, although it got slightly repetitive at certain parts, which isn’t always a bad thing. This song was entertaining, but there are better songs on her album.
7. “You’re still everything” – 6/10
“You’re still everything” is one of her sadder songs in the album. It’s much slower and softer than the others. It was a nice change from the other songs, but it felt boring when listening to the whole thing. Although her voice really stood out in this song, her raw vocals sounded very nice.
8. “Bittersweet” – 7.5/10
“Bittersweet” felt very nostalgic. Just like angel wings, it felt like a pop song from the 2010s. Listening to this song, it sounded similar to multiple popular artists, including Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter.
9. “Complexity” – 5/10
“Complexity” had a much faster pace than most of the others. It was enjoyable, but not as strong as her other songs. It’s not that catchy, and hard to hear her voice that well with the loud instrumentals.
10. “Make you mine” – 7/10
“Make you mine” was entertaining to listen to, very unique in comparison to her usual style. This song has also become popular on TikTok and is her most recognized throughout the album. It has a much faster tempo than the others and happier lyrics overall.
11. “Nothing at all” – 8/10
Beer’s voice in this song sounded great, and her range of vocals was very impressive. The instrumentals also sounded very smooth, and the way she sang the lyrics with such a high-pitched voice and ranging vocals was very creative.
Overall, Beer’s new album was very enjoyable. The best songs are “Locket Theme”, “Bad Enough”, and “Nothing at All”. This album is a 7.5/10, due to its diversity and catchy songs.
