The fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” has officially ended after months of new episodes. “Stranger Things” is one of Netflix’s most popular shows, and many fans were very excited to see what the ending had to offer.
The released episodes make up three parts in the final season: part one released on Nov. 26, part two released on Dec. 25, and the finale released on Jan. 1. Season five has a total of eight episodes, each one ranging from an hour to three hours long. Although many fans are unhappy with the current ending, they predict that there will be another surprise episode.
In my opinion, this season was interesting. However, I don’t think it measures up to previous seasons. Overall, though, I love the character development that the show has presented and how all of the characters have grown.
I did like the approach that the Duffer Brothers—the show’s writers, directors, and executive producers—have taken with Max this season. As viewers know, Max was in a coma at the end of last season. Despite the fact that she can’t make a significant contribution to the other characters’ efforts to defeat Vecna, she still plays a big part in the plot of season five.
Max adds to the story by helping Holly escape the Upside Down, which also gives her hope that she can eventually escape as well. I’m happy that the producers have kept her as a main character.
I also enjoyed how Will has grown this season and the new power he has been given. Especially after being more of a forgotten character these past two seasons, seeing him be a main character again and play a more crucial role in the show is very refreshing.
My favorite part of season five was the music and the character dynamics. The show has added some great songs, which really make the show more enjoyable. A few of my favorites are “Upside Down” by Diana Ross and “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany. Additionally, I love how all of the characters’ bonds have grown and become stronger. Especially with Eleven and Hopper, Steve and Dustin, and Will and Robin, there are many old and new duos this season that have worked really well.
Although I did enjoy watching this season, I understand why many fans are upset. I was definitely expecting more from this season, and the ending felt very underwhelming. I think the main reason I thought that this season wasn’t as good as the others is that it feels like it’s a different show with different plot points and villains— specifically with Vecna and the Upside Down being different.
Overall, while this final season has been nice to watch, I do think that the Duffer Brothers could have done more with it. I am hoping that the predictions about there being an additional episode are real. However, I don’t think there will be one, especially since the last episode ended with an epilogue and everyone parting ways.
