Staff Writer Lia Senande reviews the gluten-free options at Nino’s Pizza.

Nino’s Pizza, a pizzeria in Hillsdale, offers a variety of allergy-friendly options. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease at five years old and have been gluten-free ever since, so gluten-free options are very important to me. I haven’t found many gluten-free pizza parlors nearby, which is why I was very excited to try new types of pizzas.

From the gluten-free pizza list, I ordered the Gluten-Free Drunken Grandma Pizza for $23.75. The pizza consists of a gluten-free pizza crust, vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil. The gluten-free pizzas have a 12-inch crust. The gluten-free pizza is $3.15 cheaper than the regular 16-inch pizza because of the reduced size.

I was glad to see that they didn’t charge extra for the gluten-free pizza, but it did cost more than gluten-free pizzas from other restaurants. I think this is because you can customize the pizza and order specialized pizzas, which I really enjoyed. Overall, I think the price was reasonable for the quality of the pizzas.

Most gluten-free pizza crusts I’ve tried are either very thin and crunchy or hard to bite through, but I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered Nino’s Pizza. The pizza had good thickness, and it wasn’t hard to chew through. It is definitely one of my favorite gluten-free crusts.

Also, I was very excited when I found out that the gluten-free pizza had many different options: Hawaiian, Drunken Grandma, Nonna’s, Margherita, White Pizza, and more all with a variety of topping options. Most, if not all, of the pizza places I have been to in the past do not offer different kinds of toppings and types of pizza for their gluten-free pizza. For that reason, I was overjoyed to find out I could order a new type of pizza.

The flavor of the vodka sauce was delicious, so I wish there was more of it. Additionally, the fresh basil added a lot of flavor to the pizza and overall, made the pizza more enjoyable.

The restaurant has many more food options as well as other gluten-free options like pasta, a cookie, or chocolate brownie for dessert. Furthermore, the staff was helpful and friendly. Lastly, the restaurant’s interior is modern with limited seating and good lighting, so I would eat in the restaurant when there is available seating.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Nino’s Pizza for people with or without allergies. For that reason, I think that Nino’s Pizza deserves a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
